Susan Hackley is Managing Director of the Program on Negotiation at Harvard Law School (PON). In her role as the chief administrative and financial officer for PON, Susan oversees all operations for spearheading PON’s interdisciplinary activities, which include education programs, seminars and collaborative research projects. She also manages the publication of a variety of books and teaching materials, including the monthly newsletter Negotiation and the quarterly Negotiation Journal.

Susan has a longstanding relationship with PON. After she earned her Master’s in Public Administration from Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government, she served as a consultant to the Chairman of PON from 1994-1999. Before returning to PON in 2001, Ms. Hackley was a co-founder and acting Chief Executive Officer of Givenation.com, an Internet philanthropy portal enabling people to connect with causes and make charitable contributions online. Complementing her business management skills, Susan incorporates her years of experience in communications, public service, corporate relations and politics. She served as the Communications Director/Press Secretary for the Massachusetts Democratic Party and worked as a policy analyst for several candidates.

In addition to her management responsibilities for PON, Susan is frequently accessed as an expert on negotiation and conflict resolution, appearing on CNN and Boston’s CityLine, and being featured in newspapers such as Los Angeles Times, Albany Times and The Hartford Courant. Ms. Hackley has given talks and taught negotiation skills to groups around the world, including Hong Kong and mainland China, Singapore, Italy, Spain, France and Slovakia. She is also the Chair of the Board of Directors of the Washington, D.C.-based Alliance for Peacebuilding (AfP).

Susan is an accomplished writer and photographer. Her work has been published in premier magazines and newspapers such as National Geographic Magazine, U.S. News & World Report, Parents Magazine, The Boston Globe, The San Francisco Examiner and The Cleveland Plain Dealer. She is also the co-author of books on exploring Alaska.
